Volunteer roles to suit you

A great way to spend some time

We know how important it is to give back. People choose to volunteer for many different reasons, and we value every one of them.

Our volunteers often tell us how rewarding their experience is, and they take great pride in being part of a team that supports such a vital service. We appreciate that each volunteer brings unique skills, which is why we offer a variety of roles to suit different strengths and interests.

Take a look at the volunteering opportunities below to find the one that inspires you!

We always welcome volunteers to help services some of the hundreds of donation boxes located across the county.

In 2023 our box collectors helped collect over £100,000 of donations raised by the people of Devon, so every penny counts.

We are currently looking to recruit volunteer box collectors in and around the county including Bideford, Buckfastleigh, Chudleigh, Cullompton, Dartmouth, Honiton, Lynton, Okehampton, Plymouth, Torquay & Yelverton. We welcome your support.

As a volunteer you would be given a list of charity collection boxes to empty, bank the contents and replace around two to three times a year. This is an incredibly flexible way to support us as you can work around your other commitments, calling at your locations when it is convenient to you.

If you like working with the public and helping to keep our shops customer-ready and beautiful, you may discover a role at one of our charity shops across Devon.

Devon Air Ambulance is grateful to our amazing community of volunteers, who help to keep our high street charity shops open and our crews delivering life-saving specialist care.

The great thing about volunteering in our retail shops is that we have a role to suit everyone, whether you are a student or retired, an outgoing type or someone who likes to work behind the scenes.

As with all volunteering roles, you can choose where, when and for how long you would like to volunteer.

Become a Trustee and be part of this incredible local charity providing emergency pre-hospital critical care to the people of Devon.

If you are interested in becoming a Trustee of our wonderful local charity, our pack of useful information tells you everything you may wish to know.

We have several volunteering opportunities at our head office based in Pinhoe, Exeter. You might like to help us on reception welcoming our visitors, support with various admin in our different departments or help us to prepare for our fundraising events. Occasionally, we also need help in our counting room where collection boxes from fundraisers around the county are returned to us to process. Some of our head office volunteers have gone on to secure permanent roles with us and are still working with us many years later!

There are many opportunities to talk to people about our charity, especially in the spring and summer months when there are many different fundraising events taking place throughout Devon. Helping to run a stall alongside other volunteers can be great fun and a pleasant day out meeting people and talking to them about our life saving service. This all helps to spread the word and promote the work that we do.

Do you enjoy holding the attention of an audience? You don’t have to be a great speechwriter to deliver one of our talks, just someone who is interested in being an ambassador for the charity. Talks are often requested by small community groups, as well as schools. Our volunteers take along an interesting and informative presentation that helps to promote our work, encourage support from local people and raise money.  Although everyone has their own style, initially we will always buddy you up with an existing speaker to help you to see how the presentation can be delivered.

Here’s a great way to get out and about while volunteering.

We are often in need of keen drivers’ mates to help move our stock donations between our shops on a weekly basis. Because our shops are like a community hub, you might also take along collection buckets and display banners for people holding fundraising events for us.

By travelling around the county, you will meet a lot of people. If you have some spare time, like being out and about and prefer not to stay in one place for too long, this is the ideal volunteering role for you!

We are always looking for support across our high street shops.

Each of our charity shops has a manager and an assistant manager, but it is down to the support of our retail volunteers that make them so successful. We depend upon volunteers to welcome customers, help sort through and rotate donations, arrange displays, steam and press clothing and many more essential tasks needed to keep the stores looking great.

Volunteering in a Devon Air Ambulance charity shop is a sociable activity and you are right at the heart of the local community. Customers are likely to approach you to find out more about us and to ask questions, so you are in a perfect position to be an ambassador for the charity and spread the word about our life saving service.
