The film adaptation highlights Devon’s stunning coast path and inspire supporters to join our Heli Hike.

As The Salt Path hits cinemas, the Gillian Anderson film inspires Devon locals and visitors alike to join the hike in support of local charity.

The Southwest Coast Path is one of the UK’s most beloved walking routes. Much has been written about the 630-mile path which begins in North Devon and concludes in Dorset, and now even more will be expressed in film as Hollywood comes to Devon on 25th April when the film adaptation of Raynor Wynn’s acclaimed novel, which accounts her emotional experience of the trek, will land in cinemas.

By happy coincidence, we are delighted that supporters inspired by the film, which features Gillian Anderson in the starring role, will have the chance to participate in our first ever Heli Hike sponsored walking event.

The hike covers a good stretch of the south Devon coastal path as well as a stunning inland route as part of a circular sponsored walk to help support our aircraft.

There is a 14-mile and a 26-mile route to choose from depending upon how much of Devon’s beautiful terrain fundraisers wish to cover. The route will be stewarded by members of the Devon Air Ambulance team and volunteers who will cheer on supporters and signpost the route, which takes hikers past some of Devon’s most enchanting scenery, historical sites and romantic rural and coastal landmarks.

As a Devon-based charity we feel very proud to celebrate the beautiful landscape that our crew is so familiar with. We serve everyone across Devon and beyond, residents and visitors alike, and while the county is vast and beautiful, there are also many remote and hard-to-reach places, so when someone falls ill or becomes injured it can be necessary for us to deploy to those locations to deliver time -critical care. We are so grateful to everyone who has so far signed up to support the Heli Hike – our first ever hiking event, and we look forward to filling those remaining spaces!

The opening of The Salt Path could not be timelier as we enter the summer season, and we expect the path’s popularity to swell thanks to the influence of the film, which is a story of overcoming obstacles and adversity.

Those seeking a fresh and life-affirming challenge will relate to the properties of the route, which offers hikers the chance to meet a personal goal by taking on high elevations, varied terrain and to meet people along the way – all the hallmarks of good drama.

We’re looking forward to The Salt Path opening at cinemas. I loved the book and have been walking sections of the coastal path ever since I read it. It’s going to be wonderful that thanks to the film adaptation, more people will be inspired to enjoy this magical part of the world and all for a lifesaving cause, too.
