Document your Heli Hike challenge at some stunning selfie-friendly locations…

Are you ready to lace up your boots and embark on the Devon Air Ambulance Heli Hike? Whether you’re tackling the 14-mile or 26-mile route, you’ll be treated to some of the most stunning and historic scenery Devon has to offer.

To make your hike even more memorable, we’ve highlighted selfie-friendly spots along the route that you won’t want to miss. So, grab your camera and get ready to capture some incredible moments!

Ok, while our official Heli Hike start and end point is indeed a car park, and typically the word ‘car park’ isn’t associated with heart-thumping panoramic views, the area around Jennycliff has to prove the exception. Start and conclude your adventure with a selfie overlooking Plymouth Sound, the perfect spot for capturing the excitement of the beginning of your journey, or the triumph of its completion!

On the route out, one of the earliest points of interest is the Radford Castle estate where a nineteenth-century folly separates Radford Lake and Hooe Lake. Now a holiday destination, the area is a great early doors stop off point for a quick selfie before hitting the path once more.

The route passes through the quaint village of Wembury where our team will welcome you to our first checkpoint. It’s worth noting that one of our community landing sites is stationed at the village.

If you are taking part in the longer 26-mile hike, you will head further inland, walking parallel to the River Yealm estuary and past Brixton village. Here you can take a snap of the picturesque 14th century church and parkland before heading onwards to check-in at our second check point at Yealmpton. This serene route offers both history and tranquility in abundance.

Continuing on the longer route, Noss Mayo is a charming village nestled along the estuary. With its quaint cottages and boats bobbing in the harbour, it’s a perfect spot to capture the essence of Devon’s coastal charm.

Both routes converge at Wembury Beach, which is the perfect place for a moment’s respite and to appreciate the scenery: the stunning beach cliffs and rockpools, and majestic wildlife. (Look out for the Wembury tidal bathing pool a little further along the route!)

Bovisand Beach is the perfect place to pause before returning to the route. Here you can enjoy refreshments on a secluded sandy beach, or sun yourself on warm rocks overlooking Plymouth Sound.

Remember, every snap you share and tag us in helps to support our lifesaving work. So, keep your camera handy, enjoy the beautiful scenery, and make lasting memories along the way. Happy hiking!
