Looking for a reason to step up for our patients? Here’s why the Heli Hike is a great first step…
Make lasting memories in one of the most beautiful parts of the southwest when you join our Heli Hike.
We’ve listed five compelling reasons why the Heli Hike fundraiser is a fantastic summer activity that will make a difference… one step at a time!
1. Participate in a memorable experience
It’s no accident that the southwest coast path attracts thousands of visitors every year, or why books are written about it – and now films. Gillian Anderson stars as leading lady in the film adaptation of Raynor Wynn’s highly acclaimed autobiographical novel, The Salt Path, released in cinemas in April 2025. The film adds another dimension of excitement for those signing up to our Heli Hike fundraiser. So why not spot scenery from the film and make your own magical movie moments while you walk the route?
2. Ideal for adventure enthusiasts
The Devon Air Ambulance Heli Hike is for everyone who loves Devon’s beautiful coastal as well as inland scenery, appealing to adventure seekers, outdoor and fitness enthusiasts as well as those who are keen to raise funds for our lifesaving service. The Hike is a wonderful opportunity to set a personal challenge, or to take a break from the usual pace of life, away from the routine and into the wild…
3. Enjoy stunning scenery and natural beauty
We are so lucky to be able to host this fundraiser in one of the most stunning natural settings in the UK. The start and end point is easily accessible to drive to and park at, and the whole route is supported by Devon Air Ambulance team members and volunteers – so not only is it a great event to support with fundraising, it’s also a wonderful day out for volunteers! 4. Enhance you health and wellbeing
Hiking is an excellent way to promote physical fitness and mental wellbeing. By incorporating a hike into your fundraiser, participants are not only contributing to a worthy cause, but also investing in maintaining good health.
5. Build a community
One of the best outcomes of a sponsored event is meeting like-minded people and enjoying a shared experience as part of a caring community of fellow fundraisers. Whether you are a longtime supporter of Devon Air Ambulance, or new to supporting the charity, the camaraderie you develop is long-lasting and helps to extend your network of community and friendship.
If you’ve yet to sign up there’s still plenty of time to feel prepared to take on the challenge and do some practice walks. And we’re here to help!
