World’s Toughest Row

The rowing team set off on their challenge

DAA's Head of Training, Luke, takes on the World's Toughest Row challenge to raise money for adolescent mental health services.

Our Head of Training, Luke Morgan, who is an ex Royal Navy Helicopter Pilot, has embarked on the challenge of a lifetime.

Along with his team at Invictus Atlantic, Luke is taking part in the World’s Toughest Row – Atlantic challenge. The team will attempt to row the 3,000 nautical miles across the Atlantic Ocean from La Gomera in the Canary Islands to Antigua.

Departing the UK on Sunday 1 December 2024, Luke and his teammates will soon begin this huge endeavor to row for 2 hours on, 2 hours off for around 6 to 7 long, hard weeks. They must carry all food, provisions and kit on board, accepting no outside assistance during the trip. They will do all this whilst battling sleep deprivation and salt sores.

Rowers are predicted to burn between 5,000-6,000 calories per day during a challenge like this, facing waves that can measure up to 40ft high and temperatures that range from as low as 10 degrees during the night shifts to high 30’s with added humidity as they reach the end of their row.

The Cornish crew are working towards educating, informing and raising funds for adolescent mental health by rowing in aid of Invictus Trust, a young people’s mental health charity based in Cornwall. They had set themselves an ambitious fundraising target of £100,000 and before setting off had already raised more than £6,000 towards this.

If you want to support Luke and the Invictus Atlantic team in their voyage they welcome your support.

Good Luck!

Everyone at Devon Air Ambulance wishes our colleague, Luke, and his crewmates the best of luck with this incredible fundraising challenge. We’ll look forward to seeing you and hearing all your stories about this intrepid adventure on your return to us in February, Captain!
